Gloria Orwoba Exposes ‘Special Treatment’ Behind Karen Nyamu’s Foreign Missions
  • Gloria Orwoba questions Karen Nyamu’s frequent foreign trips on parliamentary duty.
  • Claims that senior male officials use favouritism in choosing female delegates.
  • Alleges she was blacklisted after refusing advances from top Senate officials.
  • Orwoba calls out what she terms as “rewarding loyalty” over merit.
  • Her statements stir online debate over transparency and gender bias in Parliament.

Former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has once again grabbed public attention this time over remarks aimed at how women are picked for international duties in Parliament. While reacting to her court defeat in a defamation case, she openly questioned why fellow politician Karen Nyamu is always on the list for foreign delegations.

“Is she an expert in everything?” Orwoba asked, throwing shade at Nyamu’s repeated selection for high-level trips abroad. According to her, the choices are not based on qualifications but personal closeness with influential men in the system.

Orwoba did not stop there. She went further to explain that her time in the Senate was marked by pressure to give in to certain expectations. She claims that after refusing advances from some senior figures, she was deliberately left out of committees and denied travel opportunities.

“I was excluded from everything just because I didn’t play along,” she said, describing what she believes is a quiet punishment system for women who don’t cooperate.

Her claims have sparked an online storm, with netizens divided. Some support her call for transparency in how women are chosen to represent Kenya abroad, while others say the remarks could deepen gender-based divisions.

Critics now want the Senate to explain how international travel slots are awarded. They believe that if Orwoba’s claims hold water, the situation points to deeper gender issues in leadership circles.

Orwoba’s revelations, whether personal or political, have ignited questions that could push for review in the way parliamentary missions are handled, especially where women are concerned.
