  • Kenya U20 star Aldrine Kibet signs four-year contract with Spanish side Celta Vigo.
  • The 18-year-old midfielder will begin at Celta Fortuna, the club’s reserve team.
  • Kibet impressed during the 2023 KSSSA games and CECAFA U18 qualifiers.
  • Becomes the potential third Kenyan to play in La Liga after Mariga and Olunga.

Kenya’s teenage football prodigy Aldrine Kibet has officially joined Spanish top-flight club Celta Vigo on a four-year deal, in a move that confirms his rapid rise in international football. Kibet, 18, will initially feature for Celta Fortuna, the club’s reserve team, as he develops for future first-team action.

In their official announcement on Monday, Celta Vigo praised Kibet’s speed, skill, and eye for goal, highlighting their faith in his potential under coach Fredi Álvarez. The club described him as a player they are “betting on” to strengthen the squad.

“His projection and quality make him a key long-term addition,” the club noted.

Kibet shot to fame after a standout performance in the 2023 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games, where he starred for St. Anthony’s Boys – Kitale. He later joined Spain’s Nastic Sports Academy and excelled in CECAFA U18 and AFCON U20 qualifiers, scoring five goals to help Kenya secure a historic qualification for the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

If Kibet breaks into Celta’s senior team, he will follow in the footsteps of McDonald Mariga and Michael Olunga as the only Kenyans to play in La Liga. His journey from Kakamega’s dusty pitches to Spain’s elite stage marks one of Kenya’s most promising football success stories.
