The family of Benedict Kabiru, a Kenyan police officer deployed to Haiti under the country’s peace mission, has taken legal action after weeks of unanswered questions about his disappearance.

In a case set to be heard today at the High Court, Kabiru’s mother, Jacinta Wanjiku, and his uncle, Daniel Ndung’u, are pushing for urgent state action, accusing the government of keeping them in the dark.

According to the petition, the family says the government’s continued silence has caused emotional suffering, adding that no official statement has offered clarity on whether Kabiru is safe or even alive.

They now want the court to force the state to disclose his exact location or confirm if he is deceased, including where his body might be found.

Pressure Builds on State Over Foreign Deployment

This case has once again sparked national concern about the safety of Kenyan officers serving outside the country, particularly in high-risk conflict zones like Haiti, where instability remains widespread.

Critics argue the government must maintain constant communication with families, especially when lives are at risk abroad.

As the High Court sits to hear the matter, Kabiru’s family remains hopeful that legal intervention will break the silence. For them, the truth—however painful—is better than the void of not knowing.
