  • Arsenal land Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in a deal worth €73.5 million.
  • The striker scored 39 goals last season and starred in Champions League matches.
  • He will wear the No. 14 shirt and join the team in Asia for the preseason.
  • Gyökeres is Arsenal’s second major signing this week.
  • Manager Arteta says he fits the club’s ambitions going into the new season.

Arsenal have officially announced the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres from Portuguese side Sporting CP in one of their biggest deals of the summer. The transfer, which could amount to €73.5 million (approximately £63.4 million), includes an upfront payment of €63.5 million and an additional €10 million contingent upon performance.

The 26-year-old, who lit up Liga Portugal last season with 39 goals, has now joined the North London giants and is expected to take up a central role in Mikel Arteta’s squad as they aim for silverware.

Gyökeres is set to wear the legendary No.14 jersey, once made famous by Arsenal icon Thierry Henry. He will be part of Arsenal’s pre-season tour in Asia and could feature in the friendly clash against rivals Tottenham on July 31.

The striker attracted massive attention across Europe after he netted a hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League. Arsenal, however, moved swiftly to seal the deal ahead of their competitors.

Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta said the club is thrilled to bring Gyökeres on board, describing him as a player who fits Arsenal’s current direction and ambition.

Manager Mikel Arteta echoed the same message, highlighting the forward’s pace, power, and consistent scoring form at both club and national level. Arteta added that Viktor’s arrival adds a fresh threat to their attacking setup.

This move follows closely behind the signing of Spanish defender Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia, another piece in Arsenal’s ongoing rebuild. The two new faces join other summer arrivals like midfielder Martin Zubimendi, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, and midfielder Christian Nørgaard.

With Arsenal looking to strengthen every area of the pitch, Gyokeres’ transfer underlines the club’s intent to challenge seriously in the 2025/26 campaign.

Gyökeres comes in with a huge price tag and massive expectations. Arsenal fans will be hoping he can replicate his lethal form in front of goal and lead the team to a long-awaited title push. If his past season is anything to go by, he could be exactly what the Gunners need.
