- Civil groups file petition to remove CS Kipchumba Murkomen from office
- Petition claims Murkomen’s remarks support violence and break ethical rules
- Filed on July 2 at the High Court by KHRC, Katiba Institute, and others
- Groups want the court to declare him unfit to hold public office
- Petition warns that ignoring such conduct encourages impunity
- Murkomen has not yet replied to the case
A group of civil society organisations has taken legal action against the Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. They filed a petition at the High Court asking for his removal, citing statements he allegedly made that seemed to back deadly force.
The petition was officially submitted on July 2 and is led by the Katiba Institute and Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), with support from other advocacy groups.
According to the petitioners, Murkomen’s words went beyond normal speech and crossed into incitement to violence. They say the remarks promoted unlawful behaviour and failed to reflect the high moral standards expected from senior public officers.
In a public statement, the organisations said:
“The petition alleges that these comments constitute incitement to violence and unlawful acts, and amount to unacceptable ethical conduct required of a public officer.”
The petitioners now want the court to step in and defend the Constitution. They argue that not taking action would give room for impunity and weaken the ethical responsibility that comes with public leadership.
The group insists that public officers must be held accountable when their actions or statements endanger lives or undermine the law.
As of now, CS Kipchumba Murkomen has not issued a public response to the petition. The matter is likely to draw attention in the coming days as the case moves through the court system.
