Kenya’s middle-distance icon Pamela Jelimo is now officially set to receive a silver medal from the 2012 London Olympics, more than a decade after the race. This follows a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) which dismissed an appeal from Russian runner Ekaterina Guliyev (formerly Poistogova), who had been banned for doping.
The decision cements Guliyev’s four-year suspension and disqualifies her past performances, including the silver medal she was given after the 2017 disqualification of Mariya Savinova, another Russian athlete found guilty of doping.
With the latest outcome, South Africa’s Caster Semenya remains the gold medalist, Jelimo will receive silver, and Alysia Montaño of the USA is expected to be upgraded to bronze.
Past Glory Rewritten, Fairness Restored
The update adds a new highlight to Jelimo’s already impressive journey. She originally came in fourth during the London Games but now receives a well-earned place on the podium. This reallocation not only honours her performance but also sends a clear message supporting clean competition.
