Bidding Rules and Viewing Dates

Interested buyers will need to pay a refundable deposit to take part: Ksh 2,000 for animals and general items, Ksh 20,000 to bid for the vehicle

The university has warned that any successful bidder who fails to complete payment will lose their deposit.

Members of the public can view the items from June 20 to June 23, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM daily.

Financial Woes Behind the Sale

While it’s not uncommon for universities to dispose of assets, Moi’s choice of auction items—especially donkeys and pedigree dogs—has drawn curiosity and sparked online chatter.

The institution, once a pillar of academic excellence, has in recent years battled with delayed salaries, halted projects, and declining enrollment, pushing it to explore non-traditional revenue sources.

With the auction just days away, eyes are now on how much Moi University can recover—and whether this signals a bigger financial crisis within Kenya’s public university system.
