- MCA Absalom Odhiambo dismisses claims linking him to protest violence
- Says Nation Media’s article was false and politically driven
- Denies meeting with police or activists to plan attacks
- Claims he was in a media interview when the violence happened
- Threatens legal action over what he calls defamation
Korogocho MCA Absalom Odhiambo has hit back at the Nation Media Group, accusing it of spreading lies and political propaganda after a headline story linked him to the violent disruption of peaceful anti-police brutality protests in Nairobi on June 17.
In a video posted online on Thursday, June 19, the vocal MCA strongly denied the report, calling it “false, malicious, and intended to destroy my image.”
The Daily Nation front-page exposé, titled “How Chaos Was Planned in the City,” carried a photo of Odhiambo alongside Police Spokesperson Michael Muchiri and youth activist Gaucho, alleging the three were part of a group that coordinated the attack on the Gen Z-led protest in Nairobi’s CBD.
But Odhiambo maintains he was not part of it, insisting:
“I was in a media interview when all that happened. Let them trace my phone and prove otherwise.”
He challenged the paper to present evidence, stating that the claims had tarnished his reputation without proof.
The MCA stated that he has always supported peaceful demonstrations and could never be involved in any plot that would harm innocent citizens.
“This is character assassination,” he said. “You cannot use rumours to finish a leader. I am suing you.”
He described the article as one built on hearsay and politics, not facts, and vowed to seek legal redress.
Public Reaction and Silence from NMG
Odhiambo’s name has dominated online debates, with many Kenyans calling for clarity and accountability over the presence of armed goons who attacked protesters during the recent demonstrations.
Despite the growing tension, Nation Media Group has yet to issue any official response regarding the MCA’s threats to take legal action.
As investigations continue and more names are mentioned in connection with the chaos, Odhiambo is standing firm, dismissing it all as a targeted smear campaign.
