Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly criticized Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, holding him responsible for the death of Albert Ojwang’. Ojwang’ had been arrested over a social media post and was later found dead in a police cell.

Taking to his X account on Monday, Gachagua directly blamed Lagat, calling the young man’s death a state-sponsored killing.

“He must take full responsibility for this murder,” he stated.

From Arrest to Death: What Happened to Albert Ojwang’

Ojwang’ was picked up in Kakot, Homa Bay County, on Saturday. He was moved to Nairobi and detained at Central Police Station. Shockingly, by Sunday, he was reported dead. Police claim the youth died by suicide, saying he repeatedly banged his head on a wall.

But Gachagua rejected this version, suggesting it’s a cover-up. He believes Ojwang’ was tortured and killed in custody.

‘These Stations Are Torture Chambers’ – Gachagua Speaks Out

The former DP described Central and Kamukunji Police Stations as places of abuse operating beyond oversight. He accused DIG Lagat of running rogue units, ignoring the authority of the Inspector General.

“Suspending junior officers is just a distraction. For a fair probe, Lagat must go,” Gachagua declared.

Youth Voices Under Threat, Gachagua Warns

Rigathi also criticized the use of excessive force on young citizens, particularly Gen Z protesters. He claimed the government is using brutality to crush dissent, describing it as a “Blood-Based Government” that survives on fear and violence.

“This is no longer about law enforcement. It’s about targeting youth with violence,” he warned.

Demand for Justice and National Outrage Grows

Gachagua extended his support to Albert’s family and fellow young people demanding justice. He promised to stand with them and push for accountability.

“To Albert’s family and Kenya’s youth, I am with you in this call for justice,” he said.

As pressure continues to mount, human rights groups are urging an independent inquiry. The government is yet to issue an official statement on the allegations raised.
