- A second person, a technician, has been arrested over Ojwang’s death.
- The suspect allegedly disabled CCTV at the station for Ksh. 3,000.
- IPOA confirms CCTV tampering and rules out suicide.
- Forensic and postmortem findings point to torture and murder.
- Five police officers who arrested Ojwang have already given statements.
The investigation into the killing of 31-year-old teacher and influencer Albert Ojwang has taken a new twist after a second suspect was arrested. The man in custody is said to be a technician who reportedly interfered with security footage at Nairobi’s Central Police Station.
Reports now show that the technician was paid Ksh.3,000 to switch off the surveillance system. This suspicious action appears to have hidden possible torture scenes that may have taken place at the station before Ojwang’s death.
While addressing senators in Nairobi, IPOA Vice Chairperson Ann Wanjiku revealed that the CCTV system at the Officer Commanding Station’s (OCS) office had been tampered with. She also confirmed the findings from the postmortem pointed to blunt force trauma to the head, neck compression, and multiple bruises — all clear signs of foul play.
“The CCTV system located at the OCS office had been interfered with… This clearly shows he did not die by suicide,” she stated during her presentation to the Senate.
Death Not From Suicide, IPOA Rules Out
Ojwang was arrested in Migori and later transferred to Nairobi, where he met his death while being held at the Central Police Station. According to IPOA, the tampered CCTV footage was taken for forensic testing and confirmed to have been altered.
IPOA officers visited the crime scene and preserved key evidence. They took blood samples, examined patterns at the scene, and obtained key documents from the police related to Ojwang’s detention and transfer.
As the case continues to unfold, IPOA confirmed that all five police officers involved in Ojwang’s arrest have already recorded their statements. Meanwhile, pressure continues to mount from the public and Members of Parliament, calling for justice and full accountability over the disturbing case.
