- The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Chinese technology company Tecno Mobile as an official sponsor of the 2025 and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments to be held in Morocco and East Africa respectively.
The agreement was unveiled during a press briefing at a city hotel on Wednesday led by CAF Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba and TECNO Vice President Shiming Jiang.
As part of the deal, the firm will be the exclusive smartphone partner of the two competitions with Morocco hosting the 2025 edition from Sunday, 21 Dec 2025 to Sunday, 18 Jan 2026.
It is only the second time that Morocco will host Africa’s most popular sporting event, almost four decades after the previous time in 1988.
The 36th edition of the continent’s premier football championship will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
TECNO served as the exclusive smartphone sponsor of the 2023 tournament held in Ivory Coast, which saw record-breaking viewership and strong fan engagement across Africa and beyond.
“We thank CAF and its President Dr Motsepe for the vision to grow football in Africa. Together, we will achieve great things,” TECNO Vice-President, Shiming Jiang said.
He emphasized TECNO’s commitment to supporting sports and youth development in Africa through innovative technology and impactful partnerships.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed said the partnership reflects the vital role technology continues to play in the growth and transformation of football across the continent.
“I urge more partners in the private sector to step forward, not just to support African football, but also to invest in the immense potential of Kenyan football.”
“I also take this opportunity to thank CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe for his steadfast support, and to express my sincere gratitude to the Government of Kenya for its strong commitment to improving sports infrastructure in Kenya as we prepare to host CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027,” he said.
“With the renewed agreement, both CAF and TECNO aim to raise the profile of African football on the global stage, empower local communities, and deliver unforgettable experiences to fans across the continent. The partnership marks another major step in Africa’s football journey,” said CAF Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba
