Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, June 27, arrested three suspects believed to be behind the chaos during the nationwide protests. The trio was found on a Mombasa-bound bus at Konza, allegedly attempting to escape arrest by hiding at the Coast.
The suspects — John Mulingwa Nzau (also known as Garang), Mark Amiani (alias Generali), and Francis Mutunge Mwangi (nicknamed Chebukati) — are accused of organising and spreading violent messages online. Investigators say they used social platforms and private channels to push for unrest and encourage the destruction of property.
According to the DCI, the violence wasn’t random. The suspects reportedly played an active role in creating chaos during what should have been a peaceful demonstration. The damage included attacks on businesses, looting, and arson in different parts of the country.
The three are expected to appear in court on Monday. They may face several charges, including incitement, theft, destruction of property, and arson. The DCI added that more people have been identified and that efforts to arrest them are ongoing.
