Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has taken a major political step by unveiling the leadership of his newly launched party—the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP). The launch event was held on Thursday, May 15, in Lavington, Nairobi.
Gachagua introduced a line-up of notable political figures to steer the party ahead of the next general elections.
Top Leadership Positions Announced
At the heart of DCP’s leadership is Cleophas Malala, who has been appointed as the Deputy Party Leader. He will be working alongside other prominent appointees including former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, who will take charge as the National Organizing Secretary.
Cate Waruguru, formerly Laikipia Woman Representative, has been given the responsibility to lead the women’s wing of the party as the National Women Leader.
Key Officials and Their Roles
David Mingari has been named the National Chairperson of the party. He will be supported by Peter Mwati (Deputy Chairperson for Strategy), Sarah Owino (Deputy Chairperson Operations), and Hezron Obanga (Secretary General).
Additional officials include Martin Ole Kamwaro (Deputy Secretary General), Anna Mutua (National Treasurer), Everline Wanjiru Njoka (Deputy Treasurer Strategy), and Thomas Mwita Nyangi (Deputy National Treasurer).
More Appointments in Strategic Departments
Andrew Kiplimo Muge will handle the party’s electoral strategies as Director of Elections. Veteran politician Maina Kamanda will lead the council of eminent persons, while David Njenga Gikonyo and Barnabus Kinyua will oversee the Diaspora and Religious caucuses, respectively.
The national coordination team will be led by Alex Hamasi, while Brenda Banjira has been appointed as Executive Director of the party.
Sectoral Secretaries and Youth Representation
Other roles include Christopher Mwadime as Secretary for Devolution, Mercy Gakuya as Secretary for Education, and Alvina Kabira as Secretary for International Affairs. Former Chief Justice John Maraga has been listed as the leader of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Abubakar Abdi will serve as Deputy Organizing Secretary for Strategy, Sera Wanjiku will head the Youth wing, Peter Mbai will manage Economic Planning, and Lydia Barasa will oversee the Health docket.

The DCP has established its headquarters along Musa Gitau Road in Lavington, Nairobi. Its branding includes three colours—green, brown, and black—and its logo features a unique design of a hand touching an ear, symbolizing a party that listens to the people.
With a structured leadership and clear identity, the Democracy for Citizens Party now sets its sights on establishing its presence across the country.
