- Kakamega Homeboyz FC eliminated from Mozzart Bet Cup after going down 2-0 against NSL side Nairobi United FC.
- Nairobi United have managed to send home three top tier teams.
National Super League side Nairobi United today progressed with their giant killing mission by eliminating 2023 Mozzart Bet Cup winners Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 in an early kickoff quarter-final staged at Dandora Stadium.
Former Shabana FC ace Frank Ouya pressure towards Homeboyz custodian Ibrahim Wanzala gave Naibois the lead in the 3rd minute of the game.
Abana Be Ingo missed lot of creativity in their final third, with the absence of team skipper Moses Mudavadi being a huge blow to their fortunes, bringing a huge dominance to Nairobi United duo of Isaac Omweri and Brian Magare becoming a thorn in the flesh in the clash.
The first half ended 1-0, the second half coming with both sides with sparks to hold each other but in the 51st minute Isaac Omweri doubled the lead for Nairobi United, finishing a net-mugging pass from Charo Majaliwa.
Homeboyz responded by introducing John Omondi and Enock Masinza for Peter Thiong’o and Faruk Musisi but their tactical change couldn’t salvage themselves from the hands of their former gaffer Nicholas Muyoti.
Nairobi United have made a name of themselves as giant killers, beating three premier league outfits; Tusker FC, KCB and Kakamega Homeboyz in the last three rounds of the Mozzart Bet Cup sealing a date in the semi-final spot in their debut campaign in the domestic cup competition.
Should they win the title, they will be the first side from the second tier to represent the country in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.
