  • DCI says Fr. Maina was found with head injuries and died in hospital, not dumped by the roadside as earlier reported.
  • Autopsy ruled out head injury as cause of death; toxicology tests now underway.
  • Detectives have recorded statements as investigations continue into the mysterious case.

DCI Links Priest’s Death to Money Row After Political Church Event

Fresh details shared by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have suggested that Fr. Maina, a Catholic priest from Igwamiti Parish in Nyahururu, may have died following pressure from unknown individuals who wanted a share of money allegedly given to him after a church event held on April 27. The event was attended by politicians, including Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Detectives revealed that Fr. Maina had earlier confided in people close to him, expressing deep fears for his safety. Sadly, no official complaint was made to police. Many are now questioning why authorities didn’t act on these concerns before it was too late.

“Fr. Maina was being followed by individuals demanding a cut of money said to have been given to him,” part of the DCI report read.

He Died at Gilgil Hospital, Not Dumped on Roadside

Contrary to initial social media reports that his body had been dumped along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway, the DCI clarified that the priest was alive when found and later passed away at St. Joseph’s Mission Hospital in Gilgil. A boda boda rider found him bleeding from his head and rushed him to the hospital, where he died shortly after.

The priest reportedly said he had been abducted in Nyahururu before being dumped by his abductors.

A postmortem carried out by government pathologist Dr. Titus Ngulungu ruled out death from head trauma, raising more questions about what really caused his death. The team is now waiting for toxicology results to confirm if the priest may have been drugged or poisoned.

Investigations Ongoing as Public Seeks Answers

The DCI noted that several people have already recorded statements and more leads are being followed. The agency has asked the public to stay calm as it digs deeper into what now appears to be a murder case with political and financial links.

This case has sparked national concern and may soon expose deeper issues tied to money, church, and politics.
