Moses Kuria Revives Chama Cha Kazi Ahead of Looming By-Elections

  • Moses Kuria announces political return of Chama Cha Kazi party.
  • The party plans to field candidates in upcoming by-elections.
  • Kuria signals preparations are underway as IEBC reconstitution nears.
  • This comes after the party had earlier announced a merger with UDA in 2022.
  • Kuria’s comeback effort hints at long-term plans towards 2027 polls.

Chama Cha Kazi Set for Political Comeback

President Ruto’s Senior Economic Adviser, Moses Kuria, has declared that his political party, Chama Cha Kazi, is gearing up for a return to active politics. Kuria made the remarks on Sunday, May 11, confirming the party’s intention to participate in upcoming by-elections.

Kuria Eyes New Elections with Renewed Energy

While addressing the public, Kuria said the party was preparing to re-enter the political space as the country awaits the swearing-in of the newly appointed IEBC officials. He hinted that the party, formed in August 2021, will be back in the spotlight once by-election dates are announced.

“As we prepare to swear in the new IEBC, this party, which was founded on August 17, 2021, is the party to watch. By-elections are looming. Battle Royale,” he stated.

Revisiting the 2022 Merger with UDA

This announcement comes nearly two years after Chama Cha Kazi signaled a formal plan to merge with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). In October 2022, the party had written to the Registrar of Political Parties, inviting members to give feedback on the proposed merger.

Kuria’s Cabinet Role Had Shifted Focus

The move to merge came around the same period Kuria was nominated to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Trade and Industry, shortly after the 2022 elections. With government responsibilities taking center stage, many had assumed the party had been dissolved.

Return Signals Broader 2027 Political Strategy

Now, with by-elections on the horizon and a new electoral commission taking shape, Kuria appears keen to breathe new life into Chama Cha Kazi. The revival hints at a broader plan to build political ground ahead of the 2027 general elections.
