Gachagua Slams Ruto’s Government for Misplaced Focus as Economy Crumbles

  • Gachagua says government is ignoring urgent economic concerns while Kenyans suffer.
  • He cited controversial headlines exposing massive corruption within state offices.
  • Criticised neglect in education and healthcare, saying schools and hospitals are collapsing.
  • Accused state of mistreating workers and refusing to pay suppliers and contractors.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has come out strongly against the government, accusing it of chasing the wrong priorities while Kenyans continue to face hard economic times. This follows damning headlines by the Standard and Daily Nation that exposed major corruption scandals under President Ruto’s leadership.

Media Reports Expose Billions Lost in Public Offices

The front pages titled “KPA billions loot” and “Mr Moneybags” revealed shocking cases of financial misuse and questionable dealings involving powerful government officials. Gachagua pointed to these stories as clear signs of rot in the current administration.

Schools Sinking as Government Fails to Act

In a statement issued on Friday, May 23, Gachagua lamented the condition of schools, blaming the government for failing to release funds. He said principals are stuck between debts and the fear of sending learners home due to unpaid school levies.

“There is no money for capitation in our schools, and heads are being tossed around while the situation grows worse,” he said.

Hospitals Empty and Promises Broken

He didn’t spare the healthcare sector either, stating that public hospitals are nearly dysfunctional, a result of fake promises and continued neglect. According to him, citizens now suffer in silence as services dwindle.

“Hospitals have been reduced to mere buildings after years of government failures,” he said.

Government Workers Cry Out Amid Harsh Conditions

Gachagua also raised concern over the tough conditions facing civil servants. He said delayed payments, zero allowances and shrinking payslips have left many struggling. He added that suppliers and contractors are being auctioned due to unpaid bills.

Claims of Bribes Through Public Donations

Turning his focus to recent political donations, Gachagua claimed government operatives are using taxpayers’ money to buy public support. He alleged that boda boda riders and women groups are receiving money not as support but as campaign bribes for 2027.

“Even security agencies are being used to channel money meant to bribe the masses and block efforts aimed at reform,” he said.

Musicians Misused for Political Praise

Gachagua also expressed concern over how artists are being paid to support government narratives. He said this tactic is being used to cover up growing discontent by painting a false picture through songs and endorsements.

“Our creatives are being bought to promote lies. It’s sad, but let Kenyans take the money and keep their conscience,” he added.

Final Word: A Warning About Handouts

Concluding his remarks, Gachagua likened the ongoing handouts to the economic chaos that followed the 1992 Ksh500 notes scandal. He warned that Kenyans should remain alert and not fall for short-term gifts that come with long-term damage.

“Let us not forget what happened in 1992 – we’re still paying for it. The cost of economic carelessness is never short-lived,” he warned.

The former DP’s message comes at a time when key government figures like Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, MP Oscar Sudi, and Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet have been seen leading donation drives across the country.
