Gachagua Denied Kasarani Access for DCP Mega Launch

  • Democracy for the Citizen Party (DCP) had applied to use Kasarani Indoor Arena for its launch.
  • Sports Kenya declined the request due to prior sports bookings and CHAN 2025 preparations.
  • The party has been asked to seek an alternative venue.

The Democracy for the Citizen Party (DCP) has been forced to look for a new venue for its upcoming launch event after Sports Kenya turned down their request to use the Kasarani Indoor Arena Auditorium.

In an official letter dated May 21, 2025, Sports Kenya responded to DCP’s application, which was submitted on May 20, requesting to host the launch on June 3, 2025. The government sports agency, however, cited prior bookings by sports teams and ongoing preparations for the CHAN 2025 tournament as reasons the venue will not be available.

The letter, addressed to Mr. Hezron Obaga, the Secretary General of DCP, reads in part:

“We regret to inform you that the venue will not be available due to prior bookings by sports teams. We are also not taking further bookings due to preparations for the upcoming Championships for African Nations (CHAN 2025) to be hosted within the complex.”

No New Bookings as CHAN 2025 Dominates Calendar

Sports Kenya has announced that no further bookings will be accepted at the facility as it gears up to host the Championships for African Nations (CHAN 2025), a major continental football event.

The rejection letter was signed by Gabriel Komora, the Acting Director General of Sports Kenya, who also expressed appreciation to the party for choosing the national facility and encouraged them to find an alternative venue.

This move underlines how the country’s focus on CHAN 2025 is already affecting non-sporting events as the government works to ensure smooth preparations.
