Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has scheduled the official launch of his new political party, Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), on June 3, 2025. The event will be held at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi, according to a letter sent by the party’s Secretary General, Hezron Obaga.
Day-Long Program Planned for Public Introduction
Obaga confirmed that the launch will start at 8 a.m. and end at 5 p.m., with a large crowd expected. The event will include public speeches, entertainment, and a full reveal of the party’s goals and leadership. Over 5,000 attendees are anticipated.
Facility Booked at KSh 3.7 Million
In the same communication, the party requested details on booking the venue, costs, and availability. Kasarani management responded with a charge of KSh 3.7 million for the one-day use of the facility.
Party Unveiled Earlier in Nairobi
DCP was first made public on May 15, 2025, during a brief launch at the party’s office in Lavington, Nairobi. However, that event was interrupted by unknown individuals who caused confusion, forcing security teams to take control.
“Skiza Wakenya” Becomes Party’s Main Message
During the earlier unveiling, Gachagua explained the meaning behind the party’s logo, which shows a hand shaped like it’s listening. He said the party’s slogan, “Skiza Wakenya” (Listen to Kenyans), is about focusing on citizens’ voices and solutions.
Gachagua Says Party is People-Driven
Gachagua added that DCP is a platform made for ordinary Kenyans who want a government that listens.
“Kenyans told us they are ready. They want a party that belongs to them and speaks for them,” he said.
Big Names in Interim Leadership
The party’s leadership team features prominent political figures. Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala is the Deputy Party Leader. The Chairperson is David Mingati, and former CS Mithika Linturi takes charge as National Organizing Secretary.
More Leaders Take Up Key Roles
Other officials include Cate Waruguru (National Women’s Leader), Peter Mwathi (Deputy Party Chair – Strategy), Hannah Mutua (Treasurer), Andrew Kiplimo Muge (Elections Director), Maina Kamanda (Council of Eminent Persons Chair), and Alex Khamasi (Counties Coordinator).
All Eyes on DCP’s Future
The upcoming Kasarani launch signals a major move for Gachagua as he re-enters active politics under a new banner. Political observers now wait to see what role DCP will play in shaping Kenya’s political direction.
