Finland’s President Alexander Stubb is making history with his visit to Kenya—the first ever by a Finnish head of state. The trip comes as both nations celebrate six decades of diplomatic relations.
Talks With Ruto to Kick Off Official Visit
According to the Finnish Embassy in Nairobi, President Stubb will begin his formal program on Monday with a meeting at State House, Nairobi, where he’ll hold discussions with President William Ruto. The two are expected to touch on strengthening partnerships, global issues, and cooperation between Africa and Europe.
Ceremonial and State Events Lined Up
After the high-level talks, Stubb will join President Ruto at Uhuru Gardens for a wreath-laying ceremony in honor of national heroes. Later that evening, he and Finland’s First Lady will be the chief guests at a state banquet hosted by President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto.
Focus on Development, Innovation, and Youth
During his stay, President Stubb will engage with various local and international actors. He is scheduled to speak at the University of Nairobi about global politics and the evolving world order. Another key event will be his closing speech at the EU-Kenya Business Forum.
Boosting Finland-Kenya Business Links
The visit also includes a seminar by Business Finland, focusing on urban sustainability and healthcare solutions. Stubb will tour institutions supported by Finnish development aid, including a technical training school and a youth-focused vocational program.
Tech, UN Meetings Also on the Agenda
The President is also expected to tour a digital connectivity project in Kawangware to see how technology is shaping communities. He will later meet with UN officials at the UNON complex to discuss global leadership and Kenya’s growing voice in international forums.
Delegation Includes Finnish Lawmakers and Entrepreneurs
Stubb is accompanied by Members of Parliament Saara-Sofia Sirén and Inka Hopsu, along with a Finnish business delegation exploring partnerships with Kenyan firms in various sectors.
