Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has relegated Muhoroni Youth FC from the National Super League (NSL) to the Division One following a directive from the FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee that found the club guilty of “activities related to the manipulation of football matches and competitions”.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has further ordered the relegation of the Muhoroni Youth senior team to the Football Kenya Federation Division One League (third tier) ahead of next season,” FIFA said.
FKF said it fully supported FIFA’s decision and reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on match-fixing and all forms of manipulation that threaten the integrity of the game.
“We are committed to working closely with FIFA and other relevant bodies to root out this vice from Kenyan football.”
FKF General Secretary Harold Ndege said the federation would continue to cooperate with all stakeholders to ensure that individuals and teams found guilty of engaging in match-fixing face the full consequences of their actions, in accordance with FIFA and FKF regulations.
“We are launching a full-scale war on match-fixing in collaboration with FIFA, CAF, and all relevant authorities. We cannot allow this vice to undermine the progress we are making to uplift the game. Anyone found culpable will face the full consequences of their actions.”
The FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee also found Vietnamese club Phu Tho guilty of match manipulation, with the club’s senior team expelled from the Vietnamese Football League Second Division and relegated to the third division.
FIFA said the clubs had been notified and can appeal the decision.
Muhoroni are currently in the relagation zone in the second tier league standings, languishing 17th on 23 points.
