Health CS Hon. Aden Duale, on Friday, made a crucial stop at the Kericho County Referral Hospital, a visit aimed at cementing the government’s efforts to rebuild faith in public health and fast-track Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Governor Erick Mutai hosted the CS, guiding him through vital departments such as the intensive care units, dialysis wing, and laboratory services, highlighting how the hospital is evolving into a center of excellence.
Modern Facility for Specialized Care Underway
The CS was briefed on the hospital’s progress and hurdles, with special focus on the construction of a new 260-bed centre targeting non-communicable diseases. Once complete, this facility will host seven theatres and ICU units fitted with modern dialysis machines, making Kericho a key referral point for advanced treatments.
Training and Tech at the Core of Reforms
Commending the hospital’s efforts in newborn care, Duale urged the expansion of medical specialty courses to equip more health workers with advanced skills. He also emphasized ongoing national reforms like the digitization of hospital systems and the deployment of disease surveillance vehicles across the country.
SHA Uptake Impresses the Ministry
The CS acknowledged Kericho County’s strong support for the Social Health Authority (SHA) program, with more than 390,000 residents already signed up. The referral hospital currently serves over 1.5 million people from Kericho and nearby regions.
Securing the Future with Land Ownership
To protect the hospital’s space from any future encroachment, CS Duale handed over the official land title deed—a key step in ensuring uninterrupted infrastructure expansion in the long term.
Leaders Unite Behind Health Agenda
Several leaders, including Kipkelion East MP Joseph Kirui, Ainamoi MP Benjamin Kipkirui, and Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, attended the event and expressed their readiness to help strengthen health services in the region.
