Governor Johnson Sakaja has finally addressed the passing of Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve, describing it as a huge loss to the Nairobi County Assembly.
Speaking during a media appearance on Wednesday, April 23, the governor sent his heartfelt condolences to the people of Kariobangi North and Munuve’s family. He confirmed that an autopsy would be conducted on Thursday, April 24, to help clarify the circumstances around his sudden death.
“Joel collapsed at home. We have no reports of any prior illness. That’s why a full investigation is necessary,” Sakaja stated.
No Room for Politics in Mourning
Sakaja cautioned leaders and the public against making unfounded political statements or speculations while the matter is still under investigation. He emphasized that the tragedy should be handled with sensitivity and respect.
“We disagreed on many issues politically, but that does not take away the respect I had for him. He believed in what he stood for. Death is not a tool for political games,” the governor warned.
Probe to Be Launched If Foul Play Is Found
Should the autopsy suggest any suspicious elements, Sakaja assured that the relevant agencies would be tasked to dig deeper and take necessary action.
“There are institutions designed to investigate such matters. If foul play is discovered, those responsible must be held accountable,” he added.

Munuve passed away on Tuesday, April 22 at a Kiambu hospital. His death shocked many, especially considering his recent political battles with Governor Sakaja.

Allegations of Mismanagement at the Core
Alongside fellow MCAs, Munuve accused Sakaja’s administration of failing to control revenue systems, with claims of cartels interfering with county operations. The impeachment call gained traction as more lawmakers raised similar red flags.
“The governor doesn’t even know who’s collecting revenue. Saying the NIS is involved is just outrageous,” Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai
