Oscar Sudi: NIS Report Blocked Malala from Becoming Cabinet Secretary

  • Oscar Sudi says NIS blocked Cleophas Malala’s CS appointment due to a poor report.
  • Malala was later promised a PS post which also didn’t materialize.
  • He was eventually made UDA Secretary General, a role that gave him Cabinet-level access.
  • Sudi claims Malala misused campaign funds meant for the Kakamega governor race.
  • The MP also accuses Malala of withdrawing millions from UDA accounts weekly.
  • Malala was removed from his UDA position in August 2024.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has revealed that former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala’s bid for a Cabinet Secretary position failed because of a negative National Intelligence Service (NIS) report. Sudi claims he personally lobbied for Malala’s appointment but was met with a dead end after the report raised concerns.

PS Job Also Failed to Materialize

According to Sudi, Malala had a backup promise to be appointed as a Principal Secretary. However, that option also fell through. He was later handed the role of UDA Secretary General, which allowed him a seat at the Cabinet table—though not officially a Cabinet Secretary.

“Malala wanted to be a CS. We really pushed for him, but the NIS report about him was too damaging. Even the PS position he was promised didn’t go through,” said Sudi.

Allegations of Misusing Campaign Funds

In a fresh claim, Sudi accused Malala of diverting campaign resources during the 2022 Kakamega gubernatorial race. He said the funds given to support his campaign were instead used to construct a house.

“We gave him money to campaign for governor, but he went and built a house. He barely campaigned. The day Barasa was being sworn in, Malala was busy showing off his mansion,” Sudi added.

Claims of Weekly Cash Withdrawals from UDA

Sudi further alleged financial misconduct, claiming that while serving as UDA’s Secretary General, Malala was withdrawing large sums from party accounts.

“Check the UDA records. He was taking over 5 million shillings every week. That man is a thief,” Sudi claimed.

Malala’s Exit from UDA Leadership

Cleophas Malala was removed from the position of UDA Secretary General in August 2024 during a National Executive Committee session. The move came amid mounting internal tension and growing accusations surrounding his conduct.
