Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has hinted at contesting for the presidency in the upcoming 2027 General Election, with none other than Ndindi Nyoro as a possible running mate.

While appearing on Hot 96’s breakfast show, Babu said the idea of running for president is gaining ground due to pressure from his supporters and the leadership experience he has built over the years.

“If we agree with my brother Ndindi Nyoro to go for the top seat, we’ll secure it before dawn—without even the cost of paying agents,” he boldly remarked.

From University of Nairobi to National Politics

Babu emphasized that his leadership journey began back in his university days as a student leader at UoN, an experience he believes has fully prepared him for national leadership. He argued that his years in public service have given him enough exposure to handle the presidency.

He described Ndindi as a doer, expressing admiration for his track record, especially during his time as the Budget and Appropriations Committee Chair, a position he was recently removed from.

A Call for Young Blood in Leadership

Citing Burkina Faso’s young leader, Ibrahim Traore, Babu stated that Kenya must now embrace a new era of youthful governance. He believes it’s time to shift from traditional politics and give the youth a chance to transform the country.

“Young leaders globally are taking charge and changing their nations. Why not here?” he questioned.

Frustration with Ruto’s Leadership

The MP didn’t hold back on his disappointment with President William Ruto, accusing him of failing to deliver on promises made during his 2022 campaign.

“He had every reason to be the greatest President—his background, his journey—but he has disappointed many,” said Babu.

Broader Alliance in the Works?

Babu hinted that his vision for 2027 goes beyond just two names. He floated the possibility of working with a broader team of leaders including Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna, Eugene Wamalwa, James Orengo, Gladys Wanga, Irungu Kang’ata, and George Natembeya.

Such a coalition, according to Babu, would bring together experience, energy, and regional balance—key elements for a successful political wave.

Babu’s remarks have sparked political conversations across the country, with many curious about whether this bold ambition will transform into a serious campaign ahead of 2027.
