Athletics Kenya has provided more details regarding the World Athletics Relay Trials, scheduled for 12th April 2025. These trials are crucial in selecting the best athletes to represent Kenya at the World Relays in China.
Trial Events for Selection
The following events will directly determine the athletes for the relay teams: 100m (Men and Women) 400m (Men and Women) 4x100m Relay (Men and Women) 4x400m Relay (Men and Women).
Exhibition Events (Non-Trial)
While not directly linked to the relay teams, these exhibition events provide an opportunity for athletes to qualify for the World Championships in Tokyo: 110m Hurdles (Men) 100m Hurdles (Women) 400m Hurdles (Men and Women) 3000m Steeplechase (Men and Women) High Jump (Men and Women) Long Jump (Men and Women).
Important Notes for Athletes
The trials are invitation-only (a list of invited athletes is attached). All invited athletes have been cleared by ADAK and AIU. Athletes wishing to compete in the exhibition events must register online via the provided link. Athletes must collect their bib numbers on 11th April 2025 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm at Nyayo National Stadium. Invited athletes should bring travel documents (e.g., passport). No Javelin throw will be included in the exhibition program. No prize money will be awarded during the trial event.
Team Kenya Selection Criteria for World Athletics Relays
Athletics Kenya has outlined the selection process for the Kenyan team to the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China. The team will be selected based on their performance at the World Relay Trials and their standings in the 2025 rankings.
4x100m Men
Six athletes will be selected. The top four finishers in the 100m Men final will be automatically chosen. The next two athletes will be selected based on 2025 rankings in either the 100m or 200m events.
4x400m Men and Mixed Relay
Eight athletes will be selected. The top six finishers in the 400m Men finals will be automatically chosen. The next two athletes will be selected based on their 2025 ranking in the 400m event.
4x400m Women and Mixed Relay
Eight athletes will be selected. The top six finishers in the 400m Women finals will be automatically selected. The next two athletes will be selected based on their 2025 ranking in the 400m event.
Qualification and Withdrawal Process
World Athletics Ranking determines qualification for the World Relays. If any of the selected teams drop in ranking before the qualification window closes, the athletes will be withdrawn from the team.
