Zimmerman Police Inspector Susan Wambui Muiruri has been sentenced to two years in jail or a fine of Ksh 650,000 after being convicted on corruption charges.

The ruling stems from her involvement in a Ksh 10,000 bribery case, where she allegedly solicited money to mediate a dispute between a complainant and a suspect. Investigations further revealed that she had unlawfully detained suspects and forced one individual to pay Ksh 150,000 without justification.

Court Ruling and Sentencing

Appearing before Milimani Anti-Corruption Court Judge Isabella Baraza, the officer was handed two separate sentences:

Count 1: A Ksh 300,000 fine or one-year imprisonment.

Count 2: A Ksh 300,000 fine or one-year imprisonment.

Mandatory fine: An additional Ksh 50,000.

EACC Condemns Corrupt Practices

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) reiterated its warning to public officials, emphasizing that government positions are held in trust for the people.

“All public officers must refrain from engaging in corruption, including soliciting or accepting bribes,” EACC stated.

The commission also highlighted the detrimental effects of corruption, noting that it contributes to economic hardships, poor infrastructure, rising unemployment, and delayed justice.

With the conviction of Inspector Wambui, the fight against corruption in Kenya’s police service continues to gain momentum.
