President William Ruto’s close aide, Farouk Kibet, has launched a scathing attack on Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, accusing him of fueling anti-government sentiments in Western Kenya.

Speaking in Malava, Kakamega County, on Friday, March 28, Kibet accused Natembeya of sabotaging President Ruto’s efforts to develop the region. He claimed that the governor’s rhetoric was misleading residents and painting the government in a negative light.

“You Can’t Oppose Development,” Kibet Fires at Natembeya

Kibet dismissed Natembeya’s stance, making it clear that he would continue visiting and engaging with the region’s residents despite the governor’s opposition.

“We want Malava and the whole of Western Kenya to develop. Natembeya is saying I shouldn’t visit Malava—how does that make sense? How can you stand in the way of progress for your own people?” he posed.

Natembeya’s Political Strategy and the Tawe Movement

Governor Natembeya, who has been presenting himself as the new face of Western Kenya politics, has openly criticized veteran leaders like National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. He accuses them of selling out the community for personal gain.

Through his Tawe Movement, Natembeya is pushing for a stronger political voice for the Luhya community, positioning himself as a key player in national politics.

Natembeya’s Next Move?

The first-term governor, who sits in the Council of Governors, has also hinted at eyeing the presidency, signaling his growing ambition on the national stage. Whether his bold moves will shake up Western Kenya politics remains to be seen.
