The Social Health Authority (SHA) has unveiled a list of 12 candidates shortlisted for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with Dr. Mwangangi among those selected from a competitive pool of 92 applicants.
SHA Chairperson Dr. Abdi Mohammed confirmed the shortlist, revealing that interviews will take place on April 7 and 8 at the authority’s headquarters. The position fell vacant following the suspension of former CEO Elijah Wachira in November 2024. In response, SHA advertised the vacancy on February 27, 2025, with applications closing on March 20.
Among those shortlisted is the acting CEO, Robert Ingasira, who assumed the role temporarily after Wachira’s exit. Other candidates vying for the position include Kandie Ng’ochoch, Wario Tore, Kennedy Akello, Serem Edward, Abdullahi Abdirahman, Musa Lwegado, Agrippina Fernandes, Samson Kairang’a, Dinah Kirwa, and Roberts Abok.
Public Input and Required Documents
The SHA board has invited members of the public to provide any relevant information, including concerns about the candidates, before April 4. Submissions can be sent to the Chairperson of the SHA Board via email at [email protected] or delivered physically to SHA’s headquarters in Nairobi.
Candidates attending the interview must bring their original identification documents, academic and professional certificates, and transcripts. They are also required to present clearance certificates from:
Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
A registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
Applicants with foreign degrees must provide a recognition letter from the Commission for University Education (CUE), while those affiliated with professional bodies should present recommendation letters or certificates of good standing.
SHA’s Role in Health Insurance
SHA was established under the Social Health Insurance Act, of 2023, replacing the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). It officially began operations on October 1, 2024, with a mandate to oversee public health insurance and ensure affordable healthcare access for Kenyan citizens and eligible residents.
