President William Ruto has launched a scathing attack on Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, accusing him of incompetence in handling key legal affairs.

Speaking during an Iftar dinner at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday evening, Ruto openly blamed Muturi for delays in establishing a Waqf, a special endowment where Muslims dedicate property for religious or community benefit. The president did not hold back, stating that Muturi, who previously served as Attorney General, was unfit for the role and had failed to deliver.

“I agree with you; this process has dragged on for too long,” Ruto told the Muslim leaders present. “There was no reason for the delay. The previous AG was simply incompetent. But now, with a very capable woman, Dorcas Oduor, in charge, I can assure you that this matter will be resolved soon.”

Ruto’s remarks followed concerns raised by Muslim leaders, who urged him to intervene and fast-track the establishment of the Waqf.

Meanwhile, Muturi has not shied away from criticizing Ruto’s administration, particularly on issues such as the government’s handling of abduction cases. Amid speculation about a possible resignation, he remained defiant, insisting that he must hold the government accountable.

“Why should I resign for speaking the truth?” Muturi posed while addressing the media on March 21. “If things are going wrong, I will speak up. Resigning won’t fix the problem.”

His sharp remarks have fueled speculation about growing tensions within Ruto’s administration, setting the stage for further political drama.
