Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has alleged that the attack he suffered at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, March 23, was not a random incident but a well-planned ambush. According to him, the perpetrators used his well-known passion for football to lure him into a trap during the Harambee Stars vs. Gabon match.
Outrage Over the Incident
The attack has sparked widespread condemnation, with vocal Azimio supporter Nuru Okanga among those decrying the violence. Okanga criticized those defending the incident, warning that the situation could have escalated further if Salasya’s security team had been present.
“Use your education wisely. It was fortunate that Salasya did not have his security detail with him; otherwise, this would have been a different story,” Okanga stated.
Allegations of a Bigger Political Plot
Okanga went further, accusing a fellow supporter of Raila Odinga of being behind the attack. He claimed this individual was actively fueling tribal divisions and plotting more assaults. According to Okanga, he has solid proof of these schemes, allegedly leaked by an informant close to the suspect.
He also revealed that there were plans to disrupt an event organized by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, adding that he himself was a target of these political attacks. Urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the police to intervene, Okanga warned that failure to act could lead to further chaos.
Mudavadi Calls for Justice
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi also weighed in on the matter, strongly condemning the attack. He described it as an assault on democracy and called on law enforcement agencies to ensure those responsible face justice.
