- Ndindi Nyoro removed as Budget Committee Chair in a major parliamentary reconstitution.
- Several Gachagua allies, including MPs Gakuya and Ngogoyo, also stripped of committee roles.
- Azimio coalition set to take over the Budget and Appropriations Committee.
- Senators allied with former DP Gachagua were also de-whipped from key Senate committees.
- National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula directs committees to elect new leaders within seven days.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has been removed as chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, marking a significant reshuffle in parliamentary leadership.
Nyoro, a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has been accused of being a fence-sitter in ongoing political battles and was notably absent from President William Ruto’s key functions in recent months. His removal signals growing tensions within the ruling coalition.
Reports indicate that Azimio la Umoja coalition will take over the powerful Budget Committee, a move seen as strategic in balancing parliamentary influence.
Other Gachagua Allies Also Affected
Several other lawmakers loyal to Rigathi Gachagua have also lost their committee positions:
- James Gakuya (Embakasi North MP) – Removed as Trade Committee chair.
- Onesmus Ngogoyo (Kajiado North MP) – Removed from the Environment, Forestry, and Mining Committee.
- Wanjiku Muhia (Kipipiri MP) – Also affected in the reshuffle.
Meanwhile, Nominated MP Irene Mayaka has been appointed to replace Kibra MP in the Regional Integration Committee.
Senate Allies Also De-Whipped
The changes mirror similar removals in the Senate, where Gachagua-aligned senators were stripped of key committee positions:
- Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa – Removed as Chair of the Roads and Transport Committee.
- Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu – Lost Education Committee leadership.
- Kirinyaga Senator James Murango – Removed as Chair of Agriculture Committee.
- Nyandarua Senator John Methu – Lost Lands and Natural Resources Committee role.
- Kajiado Senator Lenku Seki – Removed as Trade Committee Chair.
- Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah – Stripped of his role in the Senate Public Accounts Committee.
Speaker Directs Election of New Committee Leaders
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has instructed committees to elect their new chairpersons and vice-chairpersons within seven days.
“You are obligated, in the committees that have been reconstituted, to elect the leadership—chair and vice chair—on or before Wednesday next week,” Wetang’ula stated.
The House Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro explained that the reconstitution considered regional representation, gender balance, political affiliations, and counter-negotiations.
Wetang’ula reassured MPs that adjustments could still be made, urging them to take the process as a work in progress.
“If there are gaps or issues, you can go back to your leadership, and if they find merit, they will make changes through due process,” he added.
This latest shake-up reflects the ongoing political realignments within Parliament, as factions jostle for influence in President Ruto’s administration.
