Samuel Musembi, a fugitive linked to the murder of British businessman Campbell Scott, has died by suicide while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). Reports indicate that the suspect passed away on the morning of Wednesday, March 12.
Found Unresponsive in Dandora
According to police, Musembi had been hiding at a friend’s house in Dandora before he was discovered unresponsive. Investigations reveal that he had requested to stay there temporarily, citing a need to rest away from his residence.
On the morning of Tuesday, March 11, his host left for work, leaving Musembi alone in the house. However, upon returning in the evening, he found the door locked from the inside. After forcing his way in, he found Musembi lying on the bed with foam coming from his mouth and nose. A stab wound on his neck was also visible, with blood oozing from it.
Efforts to Save Musembi Fail
Panicked, the friend alerted neighbors and Musembi’s family members, who rushed him to Mama Lucy Hospital. However, the hospital reportedly declined to admit him due to the severity of his condition. He was then transferred to KNH, where he died the following morning.
Musembi’s Link to Campbell Scott’s Murder
Musembi had been on the run after being linked to the murder of Campbell Scott. Authorities believe he was the driver of the vehicle used to transport Scott’s body from Pipeline, Nairobi, to Makongo Forest in Makueni, where it was discovered on February 22, 2025.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had earlier appealed to the public for information regarding the whereabouts of Musembi and his two accomplices, Benard Mbunga Mbus and Alphonse Munyao Kilewa.
DCI’s Appeal for Information
In a statement issued on Friday, March 7, the DCI called on Kenyans to assist in tracking down the three suspects, describing them as being directly involved in Scott’s brutal killing.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is calling upon members of the public to volunteer information that may lead to the arrest of three murder suspects whose photographs are displayed below. The suspects are linked to the brutal murder of 58-year-old Briton, Campbell Scott, whose partially decomposed body was found on February 22, 2025, in Makongo Forest, Makueni Sub-County,” read part of the DCI’s statement.
Ongoing Investigations
According to the authorities, the suspects fled after dumping Scott’s body. The DCI has maintained its appeal for information, urging members of the public to reach out via their toll-free hotline, 0800 722 203, or report to the nearest police station.
