Mother of Benedict Kabiru, a Kenyan police officer stationed in Haiti, has made a passionate plea to the government, seeking urgent action after her son’s sudden disappearance in a gang attack.
During an interview with a local TV station on Thursday, March 27, 2025, Jacinta Wanjiru Kabiru shared her anguish, saying she has received no substantial updates from authorities since she was first notified by the Kikuyu sub-county commander.
“I am begging the government to act swiftly. The last communication I received was at 6:30 am yesterday, informing me that my son was missing. Since then, I have heard nothing new,” she said.
She added that despite repeated attempts to get information, officials have only told her that the search is ongoing, but no official report has been given.
“I just want my child back, alive and safe, just as I entrusted him to them. He is the pillar of our family, and I need clarity on his situation,” she pleaded.
Officer Disappears in a Deadly Ambush
Kabiru was last seen on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 4:30 pm, while on patrol duty along the Carrefour Paye-Savien Main Supply Route in Pont-Sonde, Artibonite Department.
According to MSSM spokesperson Jack Ombaka, Kabiru was traveling in an armoured vehicle belonging to the Haitian National Police (HNP) when it got stuck in a ditch, suspected to have been intentionally dug by criminal gangs.
As additional units were sent to assist, an armed ambush erupted, leading to one officer going missing.
Search and Rescue Efforts Underway
Ombaka confirmed that elite search teams have been deployed to locate Kabiru and determine his status.
“Efforts are in place to track the missing officer, and a detailed report will be shared as soon as more information is available,” he assured.
This incident has sparked serious safety concerns over the welfare of Kenyan officers in Haiti, increasing pressure on the government to ensure Kabiru’s safe return.
