Moneyfest Matatu Driver Charged with Multiple Traffic Offenses in Nairobi

  • Driver accused of obstructing traffic, ignoring police orders, and operating without a valid PSV license.
  • Incident occurred along Kenneth Matiba Road on March 20, 2025.
  • Court grants Ksh 50,000 cash bail with monthly reporting conditions.

A Nairobi matatu driver found himself in legal trouble after being charged with five traffic offenses before Senior Principal Magistrate Eric Wambo. Dickson Wambua Masya was accused of obstruction, driving in the wrong lane, defying police directives, operating without a valid road service license, and failing to wear the mandatory PSV uniform.

According to the prosecution, the incident took place on March 20, 2025, around 8:00 PM along Kenneth Matiba Road. Wambua, who was behind the wheel of a matatu branded “Matrix” (KDN 429N), allegedly made an illegal U-turn and drove against traffic, creating chaos on the road.

A police officer in uniform reportedly signaled him to correct his course, but Wambua ignored the directive and continued driving in the wrong lane. Further investigations revealed that his vehicle was operating without a valid PSV license, and he was not in the required PSV uniform, both of which are essential for compliance in the public transport sector.

Wambua pleaded not guilty to all charges and was granted a cash bail of Ksh 50,000. The court also ordered him to report to the traffic base commander once a month as part of his bail conditions.

He was not alone in the dock, as another matatu driver linked to the “Money Fest” fleet, reportedly owned by George Ruto, faced similar charges. The case has further highlighted growing concerns over reckless PSV operators in Nairobi.
