Journalist Kimani Mbugua has found himself under the care of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko after suffering a relapse following his release from rehab. Responding to distressing reports and viral videos showing Kimani in a vulnerable state, Sonko swiftly mobilized a team to locate him.
The team found Kimani in Thika’s Makongeni estate and escorted him to Sonko’s office, where he was provided with fresh clothes and a chance to clean up. Sonko then sat him down for an in-depth counselling session, ultimately deciding to extend another helping hand.
A New Plan for Kimani’s Recovery
Sonko announced that, rather than flying Kimani to Mombasa as initially planned, he would ensure he is driven to the Mombasa Women’s Rehabilitation Centre. He emphasized that Kimani’s family would not be involved in the process, as he wants to ensure the journalist receives uninterrupted care.
The former governor also revealed that Kimani could secure employment at the rehab center upon full recovery, similar to former boxing champion Conjestina Achieng, who now works there as a counsellor.
Commitment to Full Rehabilitation
Sonko reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring Kimani gets the support he needs to regain stability. His intervention comes after netizens expressed concerns over Kimani’s well-being, prompting calls for urgent help.
