A dramatic heist unfolded in Nairobi when a househelp, Fleviar Muhonja Anaya, disappeared with Sh2.2 million from her employer’s residence. The 29-year-old took advantage of being alone in the house on March 16, 2025, to execute the theft before vanishing without a trace.
Hours later, a security guard noticed her sneaking out with a bulky carrier bag. When questioned, she calmly insisted she was running an errand for her employer. However, suspicions arose when calls to her phone went unanswered. Upon rushing home, the employer discovered the money was gone, along with the seemingly trustworthy househelp.
Nationwide Manhunt Leads to Arrest
Detectives from DCI Nairobi, working with the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, launched a countrywide search. After days of pursuit, they tracked her down in Malava, Kakamega County. During interrogation, she led officers to Kapsoi, Vihiga County, where Sh700,000 was recovered from her grandmother’s house.
The investigation then extended to Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County, where authorities found costly chain links she had purchased using part of the stolen money. Further searches at her rented house in South B, Nairobi, led to the recovery of another Sh800,000.
Awaiting Court Proceedings
With a significant portion of the stolen funds retrieved, Fleviar remains in police custody. She is set to be arraigned in court as investigations continue into how she managed to pull off the audacious heist.
