Health Workers Demand Impeachment of SHA Leaders Over Delayed Rollout

  • Kenya Health Workers Caucus accuses SHA officials of stalling the program.
  • Calls for Parliament to impeach Chairperson Dr. Abdi Mohamed and CEO Robert Ingasira.
  • Claims of constitutional violations, including denying Kenyans access to healthcare.
  • Over 5,000 medical interns frustrated by delayed placements.

Tensions are rising in the healthcare sector as Kenya Health Workers Caucus National Chair Peterson Wachira has accused Strategic Health Authority (SHA) leaders of frustrating the program’s implementation.

Speaking at Kenya Methodist University in Meru during International White Coat Day celebrations, Wachira did not hold back, stating that SHA Chairperson Dr. Abdi Mohamed and CEO Robert Ingasira should either be replaced by the Ministry of Health or face impeachment by Parliament.

He accused the two officials of violating multiple constitutional provisions, including Article 43, which guarantees healthcare access for all Kenyans, and Article 26, which opposes discrimination—something clinical officers say they are currently facing. Additionally, Article 47 ensures fair administrative procedures, while Chapter 6 upholds ethics and integrity, which Wachira claims the officials have disregarded.

Health workers are also angered by the failure to implement a directive from the Deputy President, which ordered that all clinical officers be empaneled to offer services under SHA. Despite over a week passing since the directive, no action has been taken.

Adding to the outcry, more than 5,000 medical interns are growing increasingly frustrated as the government continues to delay their internship placements, further worsening the crisis in the healthcare sector.
