Haitian President Fritz Alphonse Jean paid a visit to the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission camp, where Kenyan police officers are deployed, following the tragic killing of Constable Benedict Kairu by armed gangs.
During his tour of the camp, President Jean extended his condolences to the Kenyan team and reaffirmed Haiti’s commitment to supporting the MSS mission in its efforts to restore order in the troubled nation.
Talks with MSS Leadership
On Thursday, the Haitian leader held high-level discussions with the MSS leadership, including Force Commander Godfrey Otunge, as the mission intensified efforts to retrieve Kairu’s body. The officer was ambushed and fatally shot while on duty, marking a grim reminder of the security challenges in the region.
Search for Missing Kenyan Officer Continues
Beyond addressing Kairu’s tragic death, President Jean also spoke about Haiti’s collaboration with MSS officers and other security partners in the ongoing search for a missing Kenyan officer, who disappeared on March 25 in the Pont-Sondé area, Artibonite Department.
