- Criticizes President Ruto for failing to fulfill campaign promises.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reiterated his intention to launch a new political party in May this year, signaling his departure from President William Ruto’s camp.
Speaking in Kajiado County on Thursday, March 27, Gachagua disclosed that his party’s national chairperson would be picked from the region.
He also revealed that his political outfit would field a presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election to challenge President Ruto.
Party to Contest All Elective Seats
Beyond the presidential bid, Gachagua emphasized that his party would sponsor candidates for all elective positions, including Governors, MPs, Women Representatives, and MCAs.
“We are forming our party. It will be unveiled in May, and I want to make it clear that our national chairperson will be from Kajiado County,” he stated.
“We will have candidates for every position- President, Governor, MP, Woman Representative, and even MCA,” he added.
Criticism of Ruto’s Leadership
Taking a swipe at President Ruto, Gachagua accused him of failing to deliver on his campaign pledges and leaving Kenyans struggling financially.
He went as far as apologizing for backing Ruto in 2022, admitting that he, too, had been misled.
“He promised to put money in our pockets, but even the little we had, he has taken away. Isn’t that true?” he questioned.
Gachagua’s latest move is expected to shake up Kenya’s political landscape, setting the stage for a fierce battle ahead of 2027.
