Former Kyululu Ward MCA, James Mbuvi Kula, has been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for pretending to be a top investigator. He was nabbed alongside Mike Muthami Kasingi and Raphael Muthoka Kithembe on Tuesday, March 11.

The three were caught inside a bar in Komarock, Nairobi, where they were reportedly waiting for a victim to extort.

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested three serial fraudsters who were impersonating senior EACC investigators. Former Kyululu Ward MCA, James Mbuvi Kula, alongside Mike Muthami Kasingi and Raphael Muthoka Kithembe, was finally apprehended by EACC detectives at Three Hut Bar in Komarock while waiting to con a complainant who had fortunately outsmarted them,” part of the statement read.

Evidence Uncovered During Arrest

Upon searching the suspects, EACC detectives recovered 12 mobile phones, 22 SIM cards, and 8 notebooks containing names and details of individuals they were targeting.

The Commission revealed that their arrest followed numerous complaints from victims, claiming the three had been impersonating EACC officers to extort money from government officials and heads of parastatals.

Public Warned Against Fraudsters

EACC has urged the public to be cautious and avoid falling victim to con artists posing as investigators.

The Commission emphasized that real EACC officers carry official identification cards, which they present while on duty. Additionally, summons are only issued through official written communication, instructing individuals to appear at EACC headquarters, regional offices, or designated police stations.
