Authorities in Nyamira County are investigating the shocking death of 22-year-old Brian Mogaka, a Chuka University student who succumbed to injuries inflicted by his uncles in Nyankono village, North Mugirango.
Reports indicate that Mogaka had been suspended from the university due to allegations of cannabis abuse. In response, his mother, Teresa Mogaka, sought help from her brothers to discipline him, but the situation took a tragic turn.
Tortured and Left for Dead
According to police sources, Mogaka’s uncles restrained him by tying his hands and legs before unleashing a merciless beating with canes. In a bid to cover up their actions, they allegedly changed his clothes, laid him in bed, and planted cattle pesticide near him to make it appear as if he had taken his own life. The suspects then fled the scene.
Police Launch Manhunt for Suspects
Officers from Ekerenyo Police Station, along with investigators, arrived at the scene on Tuesday night and discovered Mogaka’s body with multiple bruises and wounds consistent with caning. His remains were transferred to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital for further examination.
Ikonge Assistant Chief Joseph Masese confirmed the extent of the injuries, stating, “The deceased’s body has several bruises and injuries from canes.”
Meanwhile, law enforcement has intensified efforts to track down the suspects, as the community remains in shock over the brutal incident.
