Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi delivered a deeply moving tribute to her late son, Elvis Murakana, during his requiem mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Nairobi on Friday, March 28, 2025. Speaking with raw emotion, Elachi recounted the tragic events that led to his untimely death.
The grieving mother took a moment to reflect on the challenges faced by today’s youth, emphasizing their reluctance to seek help when in distress.
“We have a generation that believes they can handle their own problems. They will try to sort things out without telling you, and you will only know if they are truly unable to manage,” she said.
How the Tragedy Unfolded
Elachi revealed that her son had been at home that evening before receiving a call to run an errand. At around 10:30 PM, he left the house, completed the task, but never made it back.
“Elvis was in bed, then got a call to handle something. He went, did it well, but on his way back, his car suffered a tyre burst,” she explained.
She went on to issue a stern warning to young drivers, stressing the dangers of improper braking during a tyre burst.
“Many don’t know this, but when your car gets a tyre burst, do not hit the emergency brakes. The car will skid, and that’s how you find yourself in a life-threatening situation. Instead, hold the steering firmly, try to keep control, and pray the vehicle stops safely,” she cautioned.
A Fatal Blow
The MP recounted the devastating impact of the crash, describing in painful detail the injury that ultimately claimed Elvis’s life.
“His brain shifted from its lobes, and that’s what took him,” she shared, her voice filled with sorrow.
Elvis had been driving back from Kasarani on March 18, 2025, when his car crashed into guardrails along Thika Road. He was rushed to AAR Hospital, where he spent a week in the ICU before succumbing to his injuries.
