- The pact focuses on implementing the NADCO report and addressing governance issues.
Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi has called on President William Ruto to extend his political agreement with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to accommodate more leaders. Atandi believes that broadening the pact would enhance national unity and foster inclusivity.
Speaking during a church service in Uasin Gishu on Sunday, March 9, the MP praised the alliance between Ruto and Raila, saying it was a step towards healing Kenya’s long-standing political divisions. However, he urged Ruto to bring on board Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
“I was there when you signed that document with Baba (Raila). I reflected on many things, and because the message was about fostering economic and political prosperity, I urge you, Your Excellency, not to leave anyone behind. Some leaders feel excluded, and they are speaking about it. Even our brother, Kalonzo Musyoka, should be part of this journey,” Atandi stated.
Kalonzo’s Stand on the Pact
Despite the calls for his inclusion, Kalonzo has expressed reservations about the agreement between Ruto and Raila. Speaking at the People Dialogue Festival on Friday, March 7, the Wiper leader accused Raila of betraying Kenyans by agreeing to work with the government.
He insisted that without addressing past injustices, such as compensating victims of the 2023 and 2024 Finance Bill protests, the pact would lack legitimacy in the eyes of the people.
The deal, which was signed at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), outlines a 10-point agenda, including implementing the NADCO report, tackling unemployment, and fighting corruption while enhancing devolution.
