Mwaura’s journalism journey began as a young news anchor at the national broadcaster, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). He later moved to KTN, where he became one of the station’s pioneering journalists after its establishment.

He worked at KTN until his retirement in 2012. However, due to his vast experience, he was later recalled to the station to assist during its rebranding phase before officially retiring a year later.
