President William Ruto, alongside Kwale County Governor Fatuma Achani, presided over the upgrading of Mkongani Health Center to a Level 4 Hospital, marking a major milestone in Kwale’s healthcare system. The event also included the official opening of a new operating theatre, general ward, and an X-ray block.
The transformation of the hospital is expected to ease the burden on residents, who previously had to travel long distances for specialized treatment.
Enhanced Medical Services at Mkongani Hospital
The newly upgraded Level 4 Hospital will now provide:
- Specialized consultant services for over 1,500 expectant mothers monthly, reducing maternal mortality rates.
- Major surgical procedures, including cesarean sections, hernia repairs, and appendectomies.
- Onsite surgical interventions, eliminating the need for referrals to Kwale Hospital (40 km away).
The facility will cater to over 10,000 residents from eight villages, including Mkongani A, Mkongani B, Vumirira, and Goyo.
Addressing residents in Matuga Sub-County, President Ruto reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening healthcare in partnership with county governments.
He urged locals to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to reduce the financial burden of medical expenses.
“I will give KSh 30 million to Governor Fatuma Achani to further upgrade this hospital so that residents can receive quality healthcare services,” Ruto announced.
