The Football Association (FA) has fined Arsenal £65,000 for failing to control their players during their 1-0 Premier League victory against Wolves at Molineux on January 25.

Arsenal admitted to the charge after their players surrounded referee Michael Oliver in protest of a straight red card shown to Myles Lewis-Skelly for a challenge on Matt Doherty.

An independent regulatory commission imposed the fine after the club failed to ensure their players did not behave improperly.

Red Card Decision Overturned

Following the match, Arsenal appealed the decision, and Lewis-Skelly’s three-match ban was overturned, indicating the red card was incorrect despite VAR Darren England upholding it at the time.

Threats Against Referee Michael Oliver

After the incident, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) confirmed that police are investigating threats and abuse directed at referee Michael Oliver and his family on social media.

Despite the fine, Arsenal will feel justified in their protest after proving the red card was wrongful through appeal.
