President Ruto Promotes Technology and Job Creation in Vihiga County

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Luanda Modern Market on Wednesday, President William Ruto highlighted the transformative role of technology in empowering young people. He called on the Vihiga County government to fast-track the construction of ICT hubs, emphasizing their potential to drive economic growth and provide employment.

“I want to ensure that our youth are well-equipped to work with computers, earn an income, and ultimately contribute to the economic growth of our nation,” said President Ruto.

To support these initiatives, the President pledged government resources, including internet access, computers, and skilled trainers, ensuring that the youth in Vihiga County can benefit from the digital economy.

President Ruto unveiled plans for several upcoming projects aimed at creating opportunities for the youth. These include the construction of five additional markets. Development of 4,000 affordable housing units.

He assured residents that local youth would be prioritized for these projects, ensuring that the benefits directly impact the community. “I will not bring people from outside to do this work. I will call upon the youth of Vihiga County to undertake these projects,” Ruto affirmed.

President Ruto urged the youth to use the internet for entrepreneurship and financial growth, countering the narrative of negativity often associated with social media. “The internet is there to create wealth, to uplift lives,” he asserted.

The government’s broader strategy to combat youth unemployment includes ICT hubs, affordable housing projects, and labor migration opportunities. These initiatives are part of the administration’s vision for tech-based solutions to national challenges, aiming to create a brighter future for Kenya’s young population.
