Michael, a construction worker, was attacked and fatally stabbed around 5:30 am on January 20, 2025, while escorting his young son to school in Mathare, Nairobi. Witnesses described the horrifying moment, with the boy helplessly watching his father being murdered.

Former Governor Mike Sonko expressed deep sorrow over the incident and offered to support the orphaned boy. Sharing his sentiments on social media, Sonko wrote:
“This situation has truly broken my heart… I invite the child to come to me, and I will continue to care for him in place of his father. May the Lord grant eternal peace to the father’s soul, and may justice be served swiftly.”

The tragic murder sparked outrage among Mathare residents, who temporarily prevented police from collecting the body, accusing authorities of neglecting their duty to ensure safety. Local leader and reformed former criminal Felix Popo condemned the rising insecurity in the area, calling for urgent intervention.

Officers from Muthaiga Police Station eventually retrieved Michael’s body after a tense standoff with locals. The remains were transported to the Nairobi city mortuary as investigations into the killing continued.
