  • Khalif Kairo clarified his New York trip is for business, specifically to secure funding for Kai and Karo Yard through a seed investment round.
  • Allegations that he intended to flee to the U.S. were dismissed by Dr. Mbiti Mwondi, who confirmed the trip’s purpose and provided evidence of a round-trip ticket.
  • Kairo is accused of failing to deliver a vehicle after receiving full payment, with past claims of defrauding a client of Ksh26 million resurfacing.
  • Kairo maintains his focus is on expanding his business and addressing challenges.

The embattled owner of Kai and Karo Yard, Khalif Kairo, has addressed rumors surrounding his recent travels, emphasizing that his trip to New York is strictly business-oriented. In a statement issued on Saturday, January 11, Kairo explained that the purpose of his visit was to secure funding for his company.

Business Over Flight

Kairo revealed that he is attending investor meetings in New York to raise capital for his business through a Simple Agreement for Future Equity (SAFE) instrument. He also invited interested parties to reach out via email for further details.

Amid allegations circulating on social media that Kairo was attempting to flee the country to avoid arrest, Dr. Mbiti Mwondi, a close associate, dismissed the claims as baseless and malicious. Dr. Mwondi provided a copy of Kairo’s round-trip ticket, confirming his planned return within a week.

“Contrary to rumors, this is not a one-way ticket. Kairo is focused on expanding his business, not evading accountability,” Dr. Mbiti stated.

Mounting Allegations

The clarification follows Kairo’s alleged arrest over claims of defrauding a client and failing to deliver a vehicle after receiving full payment. These accusations echo previous incidents, including his December 3, 2024, arrest at Kasarani Police Station. In that case, Kairo was accused of obtaining Ksh26 million fraudulently by promising high-end vehicles he failed to deliver.

Commitment to Transparency

Despite these controversies, Kairo insists his business challenges are operational and not intentional. Dr. Mbiti criticized individuals spreading falsehoods, accusing them of being paid to tarnish Kairo’s reputation.

“No one becomes successful by spreading hate. Kairo’s focus is on growing his business and addressing challenges in the industry,” Dr. Mbiti added.

As investigations and public scrutiny continue, Kairo remains resolute, vowing to overcome the difficulties and grow his enterprise.
